Summer Activities for the Family

 

 

MAKE BUBBLES

Materials:    2 cups Joy Dish Soap

                   6 cups water

                   ¾ cups Karo Syrup

 

Directions: Mix all ingredients together and let sit for 6 hours. Then enjoy and use outdoors! Find various bubble wands to make big/small bubbles and fast/ slow bubbles.

 

 

SHAKER BOTTLES

Materials:    Empty Water Bottles

                   Rice, confetti, buttons, glitter, pennies

 

Directions: Have your child fill the water bottle about ½ full with rice and add various small items to the bottle for extra sounds and colors. Then, tape or glue the cover on and enjoy. Have a marching band outdoors!

 

 

SUPER SUN CATCHERS

 

Materials:    White paper

                   Crayons

                   Baby Oil

                   Cotton Balls

                   Newspaper

 

Directions: Have your child draw a picture on the white paper with crayons, pressing hard. Then, dip a cotton ball into Baby Oil and rub it on the paper until translucent. Last, let it dry on the newspaper. As it is drying predict what will happen and what it will look like.

 

 

SNACK: DIRT CUPS

 

Materials:    Chocolate Pudding

                   Gummy Worms

                   Oreo Cookies

                   Cups & Spoons

 

Directions: Have each child crumble a cookie into the bottom of their cups into small pieces. Then, have the child spoon some pudding over the cookies. Next, place worms into the cup and mix it all up. Last, eat it and enjoy! As you’re eating it talk about worms and where they live. Go on a worm hunt later and find long worms, fat worms, skinny worms and fast worms.

Come eat dinner, hear a speaker and gather tools for a fun filled ‘moving’ evening using the SMART curriculum. Free children’s book to first 50 families. Each week a special reader will read favorite children’s books while parents and children follow along. This literacy project is sponsored by the North Branch Area Early Childhood Coalition and funded in part by the Initiative Foundation, a regional foundation and Target Corporation.
